07: What Happens When You Witness Trauma
I recently witness a very traumatic situation while on vacation and I’ve had a hard time recovering from it. I actually had to step away from my normal life for a few days to get my head back in the game. This got me thinking about trauma and talking to others about it. I think my experience and this story might help you if you’ve ever experienced a traumatic situation.
Today we are going to talk about:
- It’s important to talk about what you experience, even if you’re just a bystander
- Therapy is a good thing
- If you don’t want to or don’t have someone to talk to, there are other ways to get your feelings out about a traumatic experience
- Don’t be afraid of stepping out when you feel like staying in
We all have witnessed trauma at some point in our lives, and I want to give you permission to acknowledge how it made you feel and validate any fallout from the experience. Don’t just brush your feelings aside. Find a way that is comfortable for you to express your feelings. This is crucial for your healing.
